The Shielded Empire by James Milne - UPDATE

Much news to report...
Posted by Jackson on Monday, May 19, 2003 - 9:20 (PDT)

Alright, after much delay (I'm sorry; college finals had kept me occupied for quite some time), we have nothing short of a news explosion, so let's get to it:

Newly released to DF-21 today are 2 weapon patches, 2 utilities and 1 article.

The Zealot is a new Assault Cannon replacement and was constructed by James Milne. Also new is a patch which replaces the IM Mines with the Sequencer Charges from Jedi Knight. Sequencer Charge was made by Steven Sherber. (Files/Weapon Patches)

Barry Brien has uploaded two not-so-new utilities that have surprisingly been missing from the DF-21 ftp all this time: OpenGL, the standard in 3D rendering and 3D hardware acceleration, and View3DO, a tool which allows you to view 3DOs using OpenGL, are both now available for download. (Files/Editors & Utilities)

japh has written an article which answers "What is a subsector?" and "How do I make one?" Anatomy of a Subsector helps to clear up the mystery surrounding DF subsectors. (Articles)

And last but certainly not least, today is the last day the Hall of Fame poll will be open. If you haven't voted already, make certain to do so before the day's out. You can click here to make your way to the voting form.

Poll Closed

Updated Utility
Posted by Jackson on Monday, May 26, 2003 - 13:02 (PDT)

The Mega-ZZTer has just updated his DOS-based add-on level manager, Dark Frontend, with Dark Frontend v2.5. This new version boasts a ton of new features, text changes and bug fixes, making it easier than ever to manage all your DF missions. For more information, visit the Dark Frontend project page or The Mega-ZZTer's thread on v2.5. (Files/Editors & Utilities)

Couple of Updates
Posted by Fenwar on Monday, May 26, 2003 - 13:29 (PDT)

The article on Installing & Configuring Dark Forces has been updated to include a recommendation for VDMSound which has solved quite a few people's problems with sound on newer boxes. Thanks to Matthew Fisher and nowhereman for telling me that it worked. :)

Also the forum archives are edging closer and closer to actually being up to date now that I've written a nasty-but-effective indexing tool for myself. The threads from 2001 (remember that year? It seems so long ago) are uploading as I type.

Cheers, Barry!
Posted by Jackson on Tuesday, May 27, 2003 - 15:49 (PDT)

Assassination on Nar Shaddaa is the next inductee to the DF-21 Hall of Fame!

The race was very close: although AoNS took home 31% of the total votes, Operation Archangel 2 was close behind with 25%. Beyond Glory 2 and Asteroid received 22% each.

Congratulations, Barry! This is a great honor for an excellent mission.

I'll have the Hall of Fame updated shortly.
