Happy July!
Posted by Jackson on Monday, July 1, 2002 - 16:38 (PDT)

Welcome to July, DF-21! As we're now well into summer (in the Northern Hemisphere, at least), I come bearing gifts... five of them, to be exact!

First of all, we have Ryloth, a "new old mission" that had been released in the past but had not made its way to DF-21 until now (Files/Missions/A-L). Authored by Michael Simon and Frank Andries, the mission sends you out to assassinate one of the Empire's Grand Admirals on Ryloth. Much thanks to Jar-Jar for finding this level.

Secondly, Taton Qek has uploaded three screenshots for his new project, Despayre (Projects). Similarly, intjacob and intjustin have also uploaded another trio of screenshots for Mercenary. All the shots for both projects look very promising.

Also new to DF-21 is an article by Fish that details the various dynamics found in Dark Forces missions. Dark Statistics explores the biggest, the smallest, the longest, the shortest, the most complex, the most simple and even the lightest and darkest levels ever made (Articles).

Before I end this massive update, I'd also like to proudly add that the nomination period for Round Seven of the DF-21 Hall of fame has come to a close. The four levels that garnered
the most nominations are:

  • Beyond Glory 2: In Dying Light
    by Kevin Buscemi

  • The Dark Tide II: Nightfall
by Patrick Haslow and Matthew Hallaron

  • Operation Archangel 2: The Dungeons of Gammora
    by Lionel Fouillen

  • TIE Defender Base: Collector's Edition
    by Paul Nemesh

Congratulations to all the authors whose levels were nominated and good luck to the five whose levels made the cut!

A few corrections...
Posted by Jackson on Monday, July 1, 2002 - 18:07 (PDT)

In my previous update, I made a few mistakes. As it turns out, Interactive's Mercenary has no new screenshots. Furthermore, the project is cancelled, but only as an independent project; the mission has now become incorporated in Omega Red: The Escape.

My apologies to the whole Interactive crew for the snafu!

Poll coming up...
Posted by JorBo on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 - 17:17 (PDT)

I've been a bit busy lately so I haven't been able to count the HoF nominations and get the polls running.

I should have some time this week so keep your eyes open. :)

Project update, good excuses, etc.
Posted by Scape Goat on Wednesday, July 3, 2002 - 7:17 (PDT)

First, a project update:

Future's End by AlexG - UPDATE & SCREENSHOTS

As some of you already know, the project submittal form isn't working again and hasn't been in a while. If you've submitted an update and it hasn't been posted yet, you'll have to send the relevant information to me at Scapgoat01@aol.com until you hear otherwise.

I'd apologize for any inconvenience, but I'm dodging all blame and responsibility in this matter.

New Weapon Patch
Posted by Jackson on Friday, July 5, 2002 - 13:21 (PDT)

The prolific author that he is, TJ13 has released another quality weapon patch. Not only does the Special Forces Mod replace both the Imperial Repeater and the Fusion Cutter, it also boasts of new explosion and bullet animations, sound effects and messages(Files/Weapon patches).

Bumper News!
Posted by Jackson on Friday, July 5, 2002 - 13:40 (PDT)

After a quick check of the DF-21 FTP, I realized TJ13 is even more prolific than I had previously thought! New to the WAX Section is, believe it or not, the Dark Lord himself, Darth Maul.

The nominations have been counted!

And the top 4 levels were....

:: Drumroll ::

...

:: Crash! ::

We have a tie!

The Dark Tide II: 8
Beyond Glory 2: 8

TIE Defender Base: 6
Operation Archangel 2: The Dungeons of Gamorra: 5

I'll put the poll up as soon as possible so keep your eyes open for another round of DF-21 HALL OF FAME MADNESS!!!

Project form back
Posted by Scape Goat on Sunday, July 7, 2002 - 10:31 (PDT)

It took a while but my pathetic efforts have finally yielded results. That troublesome project submittal form seems to be operational once again.

From now on, be sure to write to me if your update isn't posted within 48 hours. I know I wasn't always known for my non-procrastination skills way back when, but I was always pretty good about project updates. Right?

A New Weapon Patch, a New Font Pack, and a New Demo
Posted by Jackson on Monday, July 29, 2002 - 8:09 (PDT)

The newest Weapon of Choice for Dark Forces is the recently uploaded Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Patch by Greg Engel, which replaces the bolts with marshmallow flak (?), among other things (Files/Weapon patches).

Also, GAdRS has contributed his Set of Recoloured Fonts, which had originally been intended for use in his level set, The Information Trilogy. This collection includes fonts for use with ammo and PDA numbers, as well as the main onscreen messages. (Files/Miscellaneous)

Lastly, the demo that Ryan Manion recently made available has finally become a part of the DF-21 FTP. In the Ruins Demo, you must infiltrate and destroy a secret facility to finish the work left by a failed attack by the Rebel Alliance (Demos).
