The Dark Tide Episode I: Wasteland SurvivorBy Patrick Haslow & Matt Hallaron Released: Special Edition - February 2001 Download: dt1se.zip (9.4 MB) Review by Chris Earthkeeper Initial CommentsWell, when I saw that GAd had tested the game, I had a feeling it was going to be a good thing. I was mostly right. More on that later. I liked the cutscenes, although they seemed vaguely familiar. That's when I realized it was very much like the begining of the X-Wing game. But I don't really mind that. Level Design:The enemy placement was pretty good. No hard to hit enemy that can easily hit you. The level layout was very confusing. I never really thought of Tatooine as mountains. I know they have mountains, I just never thought that they would be this prominent. I know that shows how confused I can be, but I think it shows my point about how perceptions can be incorrect if not thought about. Confused, yet? ;) Level DynamicsThe little creatures that are placed on occasion seem a little odd. Not the enemy creatures, but the little creatures that are just there looking at you. They just serve as a distraction, and I'm very nervous when I see something in the shadows. I killed more than one of those things. On another note, once, my game crashed and kicked me back into Windows. I was near the beginning, shooting at a thermal detonator wielding sand person (which brings up a whole other issue about sand people not liking technology.) I didn't know where esle to mention the crash, so I put it here. Level ExperienceThe atmosphere of the level was very good. There was a definite idea of being on everybody's favorite desert planet. The addition of the sand people was a very good touch. ScoreDesign Score: 8 Reviews Index |
