A Project has been updated: The Dark Tide III: Eye of the Empire by Patrick Haslow, Matthew Hallaron, & Barry Brien
Added: Progress information

Review Forum and Contests Section Updates
Posted by Jackson on Thursday, March 2, 2006 - 17:33 (EST)

I plan on adding a few new threads to Level Reviews every day for the rest of the month. I wrapped up the letter "I" a few minutes ago -- did you know we have fourteen missions that start with the word "Imperial"?? -- and should reach Zaarin's Platform (literally) sometime in the spring. After that, maybe we'll shift to the showcase levels and contest entries.

If you have the chance, take some time out, revisit these levels and post a comment or two about them.

Also updated (at last!) is the Contests section, which now includes Matt H's Naboo Reactor Core.

Missing a few parts...
Posted by Jackson on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 - 22:49 (EST)

We're short the following items:

  • AlexG's Boing (boing.zip)
  • Barry Brien's Manipulating texture size and resolution with INF (stretch.zip)
  • Matthew Horrocks' The Darktrooper Center (dtc.zip)
If you happen to have any of them, don't hesitate...

Also, I just posted a rough chronological listing of all the DF missions we have available for download. Check it out in the Feedback forum.

New Mission
Posted by Jackson on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 10:33 (EST)

DarthDoctor has just released his first level, The Defection of Bez Kuahn.

Three months after the destruction of the Arc Hammer, Kyle and Jan are contacted by a disillusioned Imperial who wants to defect to the Rebel Alliance. This is no simple operation, though: the officer, Bez Kuahn, wants to be "kidnapped" from the Empire!

The plot twists even further from there... check out the mission briefing for more details.

Updated Mission
Posted by Jackson on Friday, May 5, 2006 - 14:35 (EST)

Barry Brien's just released version 1.5 of his Hall of Fame mission Assassination at Nar Shaddaa. It appears he's finally zapped the bug that kept crashing the level!

52 Days and Counting!
Posted by Jackson on Thursday, June 8, 2006 - 11:14 (EST)

Patrick Haslow reports that The Dark Tide III: Eye of the Empire will be released on July 31st. For more information (and for new shots of The Dark Tide IV), check out the forum.

Chromaforces Beta Released
Posted by Jackson on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 10:00 (EST)

Fish has just uploaded a beta of Chromaforces, his new palette and color map editor.

As this is not the final version, he's asking that users report any bugs they come across and suggest improvements he can make for future releases.

Head over to the Chromaforces thread for more information.

New Utility
Posted by Jackson on Friday, June 23, 2006 - 13:11 (EST)

Fish has just released Dark Dimension, a program that shows .LEV files in 3-D. Glasses are required and, obviously, not included with the download.

More information will be added to the Utilities page shortly. In the meanwhile, check out the Dark Dimension thread in the forum.

New WAXes
Posted by Jackson on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 - 10:34 (EST)

New to the WAX section is Dark Forces Officer WAXes V. 0.1 by Kir Kanos (a.k.a. Steven Sherber). This collection includes uniforms in black (for lower-ranking officers), green (worn often in Expanded Universe publications) and grey (as seen in the movies).

New Mission
Posted by Jackson on Monday, August 14, 2006 - 10:33 (EST)

Patrick Haslow, Matthew Hallaron, & Barry Brien have just released version 1 of their much-anticipated new mission, The Dark Tide III: Eye of the Empire.

This installment picks up right where Nightfall left off, with Kyle held captive by the Imperials, his attempt at rescuing Jan Ors having failed.

Byte-wise, this is the largest Dark Forces mission (15.2 MB) -- and it's only part one! You can expect to see version 2 released on August 28.

Dark Tide III Update
Posted by Jackson on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 - 13:26 (EST)

Patrick Haslow has uploaded an updated, de-bugged version of Eye of the Empire. The filename's the same, but it's what's inside that counts, so when you have the chance, download version 2 of DT3 version 1.

short outage
Posted by Fenwar on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 6:19 (EST)

Apologies for the short outage over the last 24 hours which was due to a DNS issue.

Please note you may notice another short bump while I get the domain name renewed which will happen in the next week or so.

Kyle Vogt (Nikana in the forum) has just uploaded Projectiles and Pickups, a collection of customized, well, projectiles and pickups. You'll find new animations for missiles (for you, the Phase IIs and for Boba Fett!), rifle bolts and plasma blasts, a bunch of pickups to match -- and more!

Posted by Jackson on Monday, September 18, 2006 - 20:03 (EST)

Version 2 of Kyle Vogt's Projectiles and Pickups collection is out now, with several new files that weren't included in the first release.

The Dark Tide III Update
Posted by Jackson on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 13:55 (EST)

Alright, so it's not so much an update as it is a re-uploading of the most recent version...

If you haven't already, you can download the September 10th edition of DT3 -- with the "double tap" door, moving column and tether lift bugs fixed -- right here.

Running Dark Forces on XP
Posted by Jackson on Sunday, October 8, 2006 - 16:30 (EST)

The_Mega_ZZTer has just posted his "article to end all articles" on how to run DF on Windows XP. You can read it here on his personal webspace (I'll give it the DF-21 template and put it in the DF-21 Articles section this week) and comment on it in the forum.

New BMs, Articles and, well, News
Posted by Jackson on Thursday, November 23, 2006 - 16:37 (EST)

Nikana has uploaded a collection of switch BMs. For you Dark Forces flipping pleasure, you can download Flip It! here. (BMs)

Also new are a few off-site articles: ATMachine has three quality DF articles up on his website -- Dark Forces: Early and Alternate Versions, which now features two slideshows of early DF screenshots (here and here); The Dark Forces Demo; and Screenshots of Dark Forces for Mac. (Links)

As well, Darth Oosha points out that 1up.com did an article on Dark Forces in October. You can check it out here. To everyone arriving here via 1up: welcome to DF-21! We think you'll like it here! (Links)

And last but certainly not least, Patrick Haslow recently announced that he was hired to be a level designer at Threewave Software, the company behind the multiplayer maps for JA, UT2k4 and Doom 3, among others. DF-21 would like to congratulate Patrick -- keep knocking 'em dead!

Forum Upgrade
Posted by Fenwar on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 - 5:58 (EST)

Due to the fun we've had with spambots I have now upgraded phpBB to the latest stable release.

I have restored all the previous customisations to the template, too, so please let me know if you notice any problems.
