Mortal has written an article entitled How to Give a Level That Dark Forces Feeling (Articles). It contains some useful tips on texture selection that will be very useful for beginners, and possibly also helpful for advanced editors.

Emambu has reviewed TJ13's Dark Siege III and IV over at www.commandchamber.net... there's also a new DF utility called "Dark Frontend" available, which reportedly manages custom levels in your Dark directory.

Thanks to xwing_original for bringing those to my attention!

Editing Contest
Posted by Fenwar on Sunday, January 13, 2002 - 14:11 (EST)

Blame TJ13 and Llyren for this ;) ...

It's the One Room Wonders Dark Forces Editing Contest!

Build the most interesting and original room you can, keeping everything within a 32x32x32 DFU limit.

You may use as many sectors and objects and as much INF as you like, but no custom components (there may be future competitions involving custom components; hang on to your hats :) ).

Rooms will be judged on originality, artisitc impression, and technical merit, with a shortlist being put to a public vote to decide the winner.

Anyone can enter, and all valid, working entries will be displayed at contest.df-21.org

How to Enter

Create the room in the DF editor of your choice, then zip it up and upload it via the script at uploads.df-21.org, or mail it to contest@df-21.org. Include a text file stating your name and contact email address, along with any additional info about the entry you may wish to provide.

The deadline for entries is Monday, 4th March 2002, so you've got plenty of time to plan & execute your masterpiece.

May the Force be with you!

New Article - Regular Polygons
Posted by Fenwar on Saturday, January 19, 2002 - 7:10 (EST)

DarthDoctor's handy method for creating regular polygons, with sides of a given length in DFUs, is now up in the Articles section.

Also, my own personal corner of DF-21.org, featuring the Webmaster's Diary and my DF-21 Wishlist (feel free to volunteer!) can be found at (wait for it...) fenwar.df-21.org.

Katarns Need Help!
Posted by GAdRS on Monday, January 28, 2002 - 21:56 (EST)

Once again, we need help. The Katarns are in a huge bind. We have the membership numbers to be considered as a force in the RS, but our activity levels are downright pathetic. Our story division swiftly got off the ground, but the reviewing division is lacking at the moment. Therefore, the Katarns and I need some more members. And not members who will be inactive. We need some members who will be very ACTIVE and ENTHUSIASTIC. In the Katarns, you'll have loads of fun and meet some really cool dudes who share your love for Dark Forces. Other people who lack that love for Dark Forces have told us that we never stand a chance of becoming a fleet. I'd like to prove them wrong, but anytime I try to argue the point they point at our activity levels and laugh evilly. So we need some help. Please sign up to help us TODAY! Just e-mail me and I'll point you where to go.
