JEDI KNIGHT & MYSTERIES OF THE SITH

Level Tidying & Packaging

This is a program made to tidy up and compress your level collection.

When you first launch it there won't be much to see
and the first 3 fields will be red.

Finding Jedi Knight Executable Finding Mysteries of the Sith Executable A Folder to where you Extract your Levels and Mods List of All Packed Levels and Mods List of Extracted Levels Refresh the Lists Extract a Level from Packages to Game Put Level Away into a Package Launch Jedi Knight Launch Mysteries of the Sith Level Details for Level Selected Above

1: Finding Jedi Knight

Your first task would be to find the Jedi Knight Executable (JK.EXE).
You can either type it in manually, or click on the 3 dots at the end of the field
and browse through all your folders until you find JK.EXE

Once valid the field should turn white.

2: Finding Mysteries of the Sith

If you have the Jedi Knight Expansion called Mysteries of the Sith
you can do the same here as you did with Jedi Knight
except that the file is called JKM.EXE

If you don't have Mysteries of the Sith you can ignore this step.

3: A Place for all your Packaged Levels

Before you go looking for it you should know that it doesn't exist yet.

You should go through your computer and find a nice little place
to create a folder where you are to have all your levels.

In this folder you are to place all your GOB and GOO files.
Once you've done that, you then fill in this 3rd field
or browse for your folder by clicking on the 3 dots on the end.

If all goes well you will now be waiting a while...
All levels you've placed into this folder will be sorted and compressed.

4: List of Packaged Levels

Once compression is done you should have a list of levels and mods in the left box.
These are sorted into categories based on quick scans.

If the file ended with .GOB it is a JK Level.
If the file ended with .GOO it is a MotS Level.
If the file did not contain an EPISODE.JK file then it is considered a mod.

I know that there are some levels that are made to be played as a mod
but where that is written or described is a little varied and misleading.

Any level that is under the Mods category can't be added to the box on the right.
It will be called when you Launch either JK or MotS.

5: List of Extracted Levels

The box on the right shows all the levels that have been extracted
to Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith Episode folder.

These levels are available to you as soon as you launch the game.

Above the box are 3 sets of numbers:
Number of levels in the JK Episode Folder,
Number of levels in the MotS Episode Folder,
And the maximum number of levels you can have in each.

Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith can only read up to 60 level files in the Episode Folder.

6: Refresh

If you should do anything in the folder of Packaged Levels or Episode Folders while the program is still running,
or something else fun happens that makes the program's memory not match with what actually happens
you can alway press the Refresh button and wait for the program to go through
all the Packaged and Unpackaged levels as well as game resources and correct itself.

7: Add a Level to the Episodes

Whenever you would like to play a level from your Packages
you will first need to unpack it.

This button will take the Packaged Level you have selected on the left
and unpack it into one of the games' Episode Folder in order for you to play it.

Do note that you cannot extract a Mod into the Episode Folders.
If you want to play a Mod with your level simply select it after you've extracted your level.

8: Remove a Level from the Episodes

If it is getting full in the Episode Folders, or you overloaded it by some other means
you can select the level you have played least of in the left box
and click the Remove button to Package it away.

Depending on how big the level is you could be waiting a long time for it to be repackaged.

9: Launch Jedi Knight

When all is nice and dandy you can click here to Launch Jedi Knight.

If you have selected a JK Mod before hand in the left box
this button will be Italic indicating that a Mod will be Launched with Jedi Knight.

10: Launch Mysteries of the Sith

When all is nice and dandy and you have MotS you can click this to Launch Mysteries of the Sith.

If you have selected a MotS Mod before hand in the left box
this button will be Italic indicating that a Mod will be Launched with Mysteries of the Sith.

11: Level Details

File Name Episode Name Possible Mod? Levels in Episode Level Information Text Increase Thing Limit Number of Player Spawnpoints Play the Whole Level as a Mod Play Just the Single Level

1: File Name

This shows what the file name actually is as well as if the level is Singleplayer or Multiplayer.

2: Episode Name

This shows the name of the Episode / Adventure / Level Pack.

3: Possible Mod

I know it is blank here, but if it should be found
there will be a drop-down list of what makes the program think that this level could be a possible mod.

Sometimes things like mat, sound or key is nothing to really worry about
but certain things like weap...cog or kyle.cog defenately mean the level should be played as a mod.

4: Levels in Episode

This is a list of all the levels that are in the Episode.

Some may be named with .JKL and that is because either
there is no name set to them in the COGSTRINGS.UNI file
or the editor left it blank as to not show them in the [Debug] option under Singleplayer.

Sometimes the reason is the former and it is a left over JKL file that was included when compiling the level.

5: Level Information

Some might have noticed that when loading a level there is some introductory text.
With todays fast computers you barely have time to read it... Now you do! :D

6: Increase Thing Limit

This checkbox will allow you to increase the World Things in one level.

In Jedi Knight you may place out a number of things like enemies, elevators, weapons, etc.
and that could be something like 100 things.

The game would also like to know how many more things can be created in this level.

Though the default maximum JK can handle is 640,
the game will always use the level's World Things number which
depending on the editor, may only be a percentage more than what you have placed (e.g. 150).

Checking this box will increase it to the maximum for use with certain Mad Mods. :D
It is only available if the level's World Things is under the maximum.

7: Number of Player Spawnpoints

This lets you know how many player things there are in the level.
Why there would be multipul players in a singleplayer level was for an abandoned idea of checkpoints.

Now one uses them with the Hyper / Quickzap cheat code to jump to different places in the level.

8: Play the Whole Episode as a Mod

If you know that this level needs to be played as a Mod, click here.

9: Play This One Level Only

When playing JK in Windows 32-bit one can add the -devmode switch to JK.EXE
and one would get a little [Debug] option in Singeplayer mode which allowed you to play one level from an episode.

With Windows 64-bit this option does not work, so that is why this button is here.

But that's not all. It also allows the increase of World Things (6)
and makes it available as a Multiplayer Level, if enough Walkplayers (7).

If you want to invite your friends to this
be sure they've taken the same steps you have taken
and host a multiplayer game as usual.

Just make sure that you are aware that any special cogs like cutscenes or goal cogs may disrupt your fun.
